*If you are currently in the production of Annie at the Wayzata Community Church, please still fill out a form and we will watch you in class for your audition.

Spring Audition Schedule

Saturday, March 2nd – Audition Form Due

Friday March 8th

  • 4:30-5:30 pm – Current Grade 8-12 – Learn a Jazz & Contemporary phrase.
  • 4:30-5:30 pm – Current Grade 3-5 – Learn a Jazz & Contemporary phrase.
  • 5:30-6:30 pm – Current Grade 6-7 – Learn a Jazz & Contemporary phrase.

Saturday March 9th

  • 9:00-11:00 am – Current Grade 3-5 Ballet Warm-up & perform Friday Jazz & Contemporary phrases in groups.
  • 10:30-12:00 pm – Current Grade 6+ Ballet Technique Class.
  • 12:00-12:30 pm – Current Grade 6+ Pointe Class.
  • 12:45-2:15 pm – Current Grade 6+ perform Friday Jazz & Contemporary phrases in groups.

What to Bring

  • Hair in a neat bun – dancers may stylize with braids or bow to stand out!

Opportunities Information

Due to the nature of procedures for securing venues, some performance dates remain TBA.
Dancers may audition for the opportunity to learn a solo or small group dance to work on throughout the year and perform at the following events.
  • Cathedral Dance Festival’s Small Groups/Solo Adjudication (Friday in Late April/Early May of 2025) 
  • CREO’s Elevate Recital 2025 – Information TBA. 
Dancers may be audition to compose their own choreography or learn a piece taught by CREO instructor. Traditionally younger dancers learn a small group dance taught by an instructor and older dancers are eligible to be considered for instructor-choreographed groups of any size including solos and student composed pieces. CREO Spring Auditions 2024 General Requirements:
  • Entering Grade 6+ or Level 4 for 2024-2025 academic year. 
  • Commitment to the Elevate Rehearsal process outlined below.
  • Availability for Summer Elevate Rehearsal Weeks:
    • June 24-28
    • July 15-19
    • August 5-9
  • Availability for the date of the Cathedral Festival – Usually last weekend in April/first weekend in May.
  • Availability for CREO’s Elevate Recital 2025 – Information TBA.
Rehearsal Schedule:
  • Instructor Choregraphed Pieces Summer – 6 separate hour-long rehearsals with a CREO instructor during the Elevate rehearsal weeks.
    • School Year – 2 separate hours of rehearsal with a CREO instructor.
    • School Year – Monthly studio rental to review the pieces on your own.
    • All-Elevate Showing Weekend during the school year (dates TBA)
  • Student Choreographed Pieces Summer – 3 separate hour-long sessions with a CREO instructor during the Elevate rehearsal weeks
    • Summer – 2 separate hour-long studio rentals during the Elevate rehearsal weeks.
    • School Year – 3 separate hours rehearsal with a CREO instructor.
    • School year – Monthly studio rentals to work on the piece on your own.
    • All-Elevate Showing Weekend during the school year (dates TBA).
Parent Obligation:
  • Volunteering: Volunteers play a vital role in any CREO performance event. We will need parent help during Cathedral and Recital weekends whose dancers have committed to small group/solo pieces.
  • Rehearsal Preparation: It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure their child’s dance is well prepared – including, (as necessary) the scheduling of any additional studio time or private rehearsals with an instructor.
  • Costume Preparation: Parents are also responsible to ensure their dancer has secured a costume and hair piece either through the CREO Costume Room or Costume Exchange with another student.
Cost by Opportunity: *If a student is offered and accepts more than 1 opportunity (For example, an instructor choreographed piece and student composition,) the family must set up a conference with a CREO administrator to discuss scheduling logistics and fee alteration.

In the 2025 Spring season the Faith-Based Conservatory ensemble, The CREO DanceVERVE will focus on preparing Esther. The epic story of a young Jewish woman who risks her life to save the Jewish people from destruction. Esther 4:14, reads “and who knows, perhaps you were born for such a time as this”. Featuring ballet, contemporary, and modern dance movement styles.

*Esther Is a limited cast. Not all dancers who audition will be accepted into a role.

Grade 6-7 Dancers for the 2024-2025 Academic School Year – Dancers of this age will be considered for large group numbers and understudy roles.

Esther Rehearsal Schedule

  • Dancers in Esther are strongly recommended to take the Faith Builder Workshop July 8-12. Some choreography will be learned during the Faith-Builder workshop. Dancers who do not attend will not be placed in these sections.
  • Summer role rehearsals scheduled by availability.
  • Saturdays September-December 1:00-2:30 pm (with exception of Full Cast days for The Nutcracker which will be built into your tuition) are reserved for the CREO DanceVERVE class. Dancers in grades 9-12 are eligible to be In VERVE. This class will dance In Esther, Cathedral, and Recital. Dancers In VERVE will also have the chance to attend Project Dance In NYC.
    • Fall Rehearsals Some Saturdays September-December 1:00-2:30 pm
    • Saturdays January – February 1:00-4:00 pm
    • Fridays January – February 4:30-6:30 pm
    • Wednesdays reserved to rehearse smaller groups or solos and dress rehearsals.

Performances in February or March – Venue & Dates TBA

ESTHER Cost to Participate: $300

CREO Arts & Dance will hold auditions for the 2024 production of The Nutcracker. For over 130 years the tradition of the Nutcracker has inspired artists of all kinds to evolve the beloved musical and visual themes from their classical origins to modern variations. This production is an opportunity for dancers to step into this timeless holiday tradition in a way that celebrates a variety of styles of dance and what every kind of dancer has to offer. Dancers accepted for large roles or solos will rehearse over the summer. Other dancers will be cast in group pieces to begin rehearsals in the fall. Dancers who audition for The Nutcracker in the Spring do not need to attend the annual fall Nutcracker audition, (Fall 2024.)

Performance Date: December 2024

*Performance dates subject to be determined based on theater availability.

Cost to Participate in The Nutcracker Large Roles: $300

*Dancers will be notified with their audition result of they are cast in a role requiring the higher tuition rate (for example, but not limited to: Rat Queen, Maria, Clara, Sugar Plum Fairy, etc…)

The Nutcracker Large Role Rehearsal Commitment:

  • Approximately 4 role rehearsals over the summer
  • Periodic Brush-ups between Sept-Dec 2024
  • Approximately 2 Full-Scene Rehearsals between Sept-Dec 2024
  • Full-Cast Rehearsals Wed/Fri/Saturdays the month leading up to the performance.

Cost to Participate in The Nutcracker (non-large roles): $275

(non-large role casting will be announced in September 2024)

The Nutcracker General Rehearsal Commitment:

  • Approximately 4 role rehearsals scheduled between Sept-Dec 2024
  • Approximately 2 Full-Scene Rehearsals between Sept-Dec 2024
  • Full-Cast Rehearsals Wed/Fri/Saturdays the month leading up to the performance.

 

Parent Obligation: Parent Volunteers play a vital role in any show weekend at CREO. Because The Nutcracker typically involves over 100 children, we ask that each family volunteer for at least 1 position to ensure the success of our rehearsal process and performances. A Sign-up Genius will be sent out in the fall.

  • Families unable to volunteer will be charged a $50.00 activity fee after the close of the show.
